How to Choose the Right Canvas Print Size for Your Room

How to Choose the Right Canvas Print Size for Your Room

Why Canvas Print Size Matters

The right canvas print can transform a room. The wrong size? It can make even the most beautiful artwork feel out of place. Whether you're decorating a cozy bedroom nook or a sprawling living room wall, choosing the correct size is the first — and most important — step.

The 6 Size Tiers at a Glance

At Artflex Canvas, we offer six core size tiers to fit every space and style:

  • 12x16" — Perfect for small accent walls, shelves, or grouped gallery arrangements.
  • 16x20" — A versatile mid-size ideal for bedrooms, home offices, and bathrooms.
  • 18x24" — Great for statement pieces in smaller rooms or as part of a multi-print layout.
  • 20x28" — A bold choice for living rooms and dining areas where you want impact without overwhelming the space.
  • 24x32" — Ideal for large walls that need a focal point — think entryways and open-plan living areas.
  • 28x40" — Our largest format. A true statement piece for expansive walls, high ceilings, and dramatic interiors.

Room-by-Room Sizing Guide

Living Room

The living room is your canvas (pun intended). Aim for a print that spans at least two-thirds the width of your sofa or main furniture piece. A 24x32" or 28x40" print works beautifully as a solo centerpiece. For a gallery wall, mix 12x16" and 16x20" prints for a curated, layered look.

Bedroom

Above the bed is prime real estate. A 20x28" or 24x32" print centered above the headboard creates a polished, hotel-like feel. For smaller bedrooms, a 16x20" on a side wall adds personality without crowding the space.

Home Office

Keep it focused. A 16x20" or 18x24" print behind your desk adds inspiration without distraction. Abstract prints in cool blues and greens are especially popular for productivity-focused spaces.

Hallways & Entryways

Vertical orientations shine here. A 18x24" or 20x28" portrait-oriented print draws the eye down the hallway and makes a strong first impression.

Bathroom

Go smaller and bolder. A 12x16" print with vibrant color or striking pattern adds a spa-like touch without overwhelming a compact space.

The Two-Thirds Rule for Sizing

A reliable rule of thumb: your artwork should cover roughly two-thirds of the wall space above your furniture. Measure the width of your sofa, bed, or console table, multiply by 0.67, and use that as your target canvas width.

Visualize Before You Buy

Not sure how a size will look? Use painter's tape to outline the dimensions on your wall before ordering. It takes five minutes and saves a lot of second-guessing.
